Social Services
The Social Service Department’s (SSD) mission is to meet clients and families “where they are” in life and assist them in obtaining their personal goals to improve their wellbeing for future generations. Families can expect to experience SSD core values and practices, such as:
• Prioritizing culture and values
• Building relationship and trust
• Showing respect and honesty
• Recognizing and assessing client needs
• Providing advocacy and resources
• Making helpful service referrals
• Celebrating progress and growth
SSD is located at the NHBP Pine Creek Reservation and the NHBP Grand Rapids’ Northern Facility. SSD is comprised of two areas, Case Management and Prevention.
Prevention Services
Prevention services provide opportunities for individuals and families to build their resilience and social wellbeing through programs and activities designed to increase their skills and knowledge. These programs and activities include:
- Supportive skill-based education
- Community educational groups
- Mental health consultation
- Family and community feedback opportunities
- Community and staff trainings
- Interdepartmental collaborations, including the Tribal Youth
Program, Lunch & Learn, Elders’ Program and Maternal Child
Health Playgroups
Depending on the service or program, eligibility for Prevention services are open to NHBP Tribal Members and descendants, those affiliated with NHBP Tribal Members, and/or Staff and Members of Other Federally Recognized Tribes.
Case Management
Case Management promotes the social wellbeing and provides a safety net, making sure families have access to all the NHBP benefits and community resources available to them. Families most often request case management support with:
- Resources related to food, housing, transportation, and finances
- Coordination and advocacy with programs, schools, agencies, and courts
- General wellbeing and/or daily living supports
- Problem-solving short-term and long-term concerns
- Utilizing the Tribal Member Benefits Program
A portion of case management cases are opened to assist clients in navigating system-involvement and legal requirements related to Indian child welfare, vulnerable adults, guardianship and adoption, juvenile justice, or domestic violence. Case Management services are open to NHBP Tribal Members and descendants. In some cases, immediate family members of NHBP Tribal Members
may be eligible for services.

Bménmagéwen Caregiver Program is designed to enrich your caregiving experience with tailored case management services, respite stipend, a self-care development plan, and access to additional resources.
