Lifestyle Medicine
Throughout history, there have been numerous different approaches to treating illness, encouraging health, and managing chronic disease. While we can all agree that we are thankful for medical options in emergencies, there is still a lot of debate on how best to treat chronic diseases such as heart disease, obesity, or diabetes.
One way to approach the treatment and prevention of chronic disease is the concept of lifestyle medicine. Lifestyle medicine is a specialty that uses therapeutic lifestyle interventions as a primary modality to treat chronic conditions including, but not limited to, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. There are six main pillars of lifestyle medicine, which include:

Nutrition
Physical activity
Sleep Stress management
Avoidance of risky substances
Social connection

Lifestyle medicine focuses on strengthening one’s relationship with these pillars to
improve overall health! For more information, check out lifestylemedicine.org.
